Title I is the federal law authorized in 1965 as a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Title I was reauthorized under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB. Title I provides supplemental educational resources and services to disadvantaged children so that they can meet the challenging state performance standards developed for all children.
Efforts supported by Title I may include:
- providing enriched and accelerated education program;
- promoting schoolwide reform through schoolwide programs or through educational services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time;
- significantly upgrading the quality of instruction by providing staff in participating schools with substantial opportunities for professional development; and
- affording parents meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at home and at school.
Title I funding helps support schoolwide programs at Estill Elementary and Estill Middle Schools. Among the services provided are:
- Reduced class sizes
- Computer-assisted instruction
- Parent Coordinators
- Mental health services
- Supplement resources in reading, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Staff development for teachers and assistants
- Library resources
- Curriculum Support Personnel
