A Message from Superintendent Martin Wright
Since 2011, I have had the honor and pleasure to serve the children of Hampton County School District 2 as both school and district level leader. During this time I have witnessed our district go through financial difficulty that almost resulted in us closing the doors to the educational process for children in our community. We have all witnessed transition in leadership, cultural and expectations without ever having a common vision and purpose for our children. However, I have come to recognize that through our adversities, our time of failure comes our resiliency to forge through and transform into a world-class rural school district.
There have been many changes since I first started. What once was a district of disparity, constant leadership changes, is now a district of hope and transformation. Our new vision is rooted in the transformational work of our school district, which is to become a world-class rural school district demonstrating our BEST. Always our BEST is our acronym that symbolizes our commitment to Behaving Responsibly, Exceeding Expectations, advancing Scholarship First, and working together as a Team in order to accomplish our collaborative task. Our newly revised mission navigates our direction for Hampton County School District 2. In concert with the Board of Trustees, district and school level leaders, teachers, parents, students and an engaged community, we are committed to providing a rigorous personalized learning environment of academic excellence that prepares each child, each day and in every classroom to be college/career and citizen ready with no excuses.
As a professional learning community, we are committed to achieving our vision and mission, but we need your help. You are a special and unique part of our learning community’s transformation. Parental involvement is a proactive task and not a reactive one. Collaboration with your child’s teacher is a main element to a healthy, successful and productive year of learning. Open communication is vital to a successful home-school partnership throughout the year. Parental involvement is an important aspect of every child’s education and is the primary factor of a students’ success in school.
Transformation is not easy. It is my desire that each person in our learning community embrace our powerful theme of “Community and Collaboration – Together We Rise”. The imperative for this generation of learners is that we begin doing whatever it takes to ensure that our kids leave our school district college/career and citizen ready. Our collective talents across the Hampton 2’s learning community is a unique ingredient and an important component in closing a mindset or an idea that failure is an option for kids in our schools. As Superintendent, I am passionate about where we are going. You can trust that I will lead our organization to make the most appropriate decisions that are in the BEST interest of the students.
In closing, I want to thank each of you for navigating to our district website. Listed below is a MEMO from my desk outlining the chain of command for Hampton County School District 2. The chain of command is a problem-solving communication protocol that outlines who is responsible for decision and resolutions at the most intermediate level. Again, thanks for trusting me to help our learning community to rise while demonstrating our BEST for a world-class rural school district.
